Jan Poynter is a professional artist, illustrator, and instructor from the Sunshine Coast. Jan’s outstanding conceptual rendering abilities have contributed to her fine art and commercial career with expertise in watercolor and acrylic painting, pastel, and traditional scratchboard. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Jan shares with her students all her knowledge and energetic joy in creative expression.

Shaggy Jacks Wild Mushrooms is the leading brand of Salmonberry Media Group, a multimedia education company based in the town of Gibsons on British Columbias Sunshine Coast, traditional territory of the Sḵwxxwú7mesh people. The Coast Cultural Alliance’s role is to enhance arts and cultural tourism on the Sunshine Coast and to project a single, strong voice for local culture. The Alliance includes groups and individuals from the visual, performing, literary, and media arts. The Art Crawl offers access to participating galleries and studios from Langdale to Earls Cove.

Cornelia van Berkel established The Blue Shoe Studio in 1979 in BC. Inspired by nature and wildlife she creates acrylic paintings on canvas and driftwood, giclee prints, cards and magnets, sea star hand painted ceramics and ornaments. Cornelia attended art school in the Netherlands and is one of a select few Delft Blue Painters trained in Holland – a very traditional style of adorning ceramic items. After 34 years of a successful ceramics business Cornelia now concentrates on painting driftwood, canvases and wood.

Supporting Local Artists The District of Sechelts Public Art Collection enriches the quality of life for both residents and visitors alike through the display of art in public places, and by preserving and collecting artworks that are significant to our local cultural heritage. The permanent collection includes 12 paintings and prints, 1 weaving, 6 sculptures, and 5 murals. Our temporary collection includes 2 decorative crosswalks and 24 utility box wraps, all designed by local artists. Event Wedding Venues Make your wedding a memorable one with the perfect venue, whether you are hoping to host an intimate wedding event or something lavish, Sechelt has no shortage of wedding spaces at great prices. Beach venue: Mission House in Davis Bay has easy access to the beach, beautiful views, and stunning sunsets. Heritage site: Rockwood Lodge is a heritage home nestled on a large lot with beautifully manicured grounds and is set in the heart of Sechelt. Larger space: Seaside Centre Community Hall is a beautiful post and beam structure, located in downtown Sechelt. This large open space, with its vaulted ceilings and large windows, is brightly lit and is just steps from the shoreline. The surrounding grounds are beautifully manicured.

Jan Jensen is an abstract expressionist artist. Her recent work – paintings, layered resin pieces and acetate installations – are all energy maps: her take on the interaction of energy streams with each other and her. They track change, stillness, and disruption in the flow of creation as she experiences it. Jan’s flow exploration is also fed by her Nia practice, her garden, and the flow she experiences in the land and seas around her. Jan’s current pieces include abstract acrylic paintings and painted acetate banners.

Carol-Anne Almquist is a landscape artist working with acrylic and watercolour in an impressionistic style. Her bold west coast scenes feature iconic paintings of boats, historic buildings and the picturesque ocean views that the Coast is known for. Carol-Anne has recently added some bold acrylics, art cards, calendars, posters, matted paper prints and giclee canvas prints to her gallery collection. Carol-Anne’s expressive watercolours have been featured in “The Art of Watercolour” magazine and is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists whose work has shown in the Granville Island Gallery.

Coastal artist, Laura Barron is a self taught artist who is passionate about creating fun, whimsical paintings with watercolour and black archival ink. She also enjoys working with acrylics, mixed media and photography. She offers classes where people can hand paint bisque or work with raw clay. Laura also works with fabric, mixed media and creates wood projects with her scroll saw. The studio is open to the public by appointment.

Gigi paints like she needs to breathe, all she has known ever since she was a small child. Her painting is done entirely on an intuitive level, especially the colour selection. She visualizes the outcome for days, weeks, sometimes even months or years before actually starting the physical act of painting, but never really knows how the images will turn out until they are finished. Sandy Kay’s artistic career has developed on many levels. Before becoming a full-time painter, she worked as a graphic and greeting card designer, a theatre-set costume designer, and a publisher. With her diverse experience, Sandy has also taught many art workshops and classes and she continues to do this today while creating new works from her new studio in Halfmoon Bay, BC.

The composition and usage of colour in most of my paintings are based on the principle of seeing beauty in understatement. What I express in my paintings is not what I see but the essence of how I feel and what inspires me. My goal is to create art that people wish to have in their daily lives, and which brings them joy and happiness.
