German language choir

The German Canadian Cultural Society, or Victoria Edelweiss Club, was founded in 1970 to preserve the traditions of German-speaking immigrants in Victoria and help them integrate into Canadian life. From the start, it welcomed the community to experience German culture. The founders purchased a former rollerskating rink at 108 Niagara Street and, with volunteer labour, transformed it into a Bavarian-style dance hall and kitchen. Events like monthly dances, Oktoberfests, and choir performances became staples. In 1980, the clubhouse was expanded to include a bar, library, games room, and meeting space. Today, the club continues to share German-Canadian culture through community events.
